But a son does not live with such narrow expectations. A son knows that he has a place in his father’s house, a share in his father’s inheritance, and a secure identity that no one can take away. This difference explains the gap between those who merely desire religion and those who truly walk in relationship with God. Many approach God only as slaves, seeking freedom from guilt, freedom from fear, or freedom from sin. They hope for relief but stop short of claiming their full inheritance.
